4 months earlier in the calendar was a good move for the USHJA Zone
10 Southern Medal Challenge. Numbers doubled and trippled in the
Stirrup Cup Finals at 3’ and the Mini Medal Finals at 2’6”during
a surprisingly cool July weekend at Camelot Riding Club.
Besting the field of Stirrup Cup riders after two challenging rounds
designed by Mike Nielsen, was Kira Zelman riding Ben Hur owned by
Star Lane Farms. Reserve Champion, coming all the way from Santa
Barbara, was Laurel Hicks on Tall Dark & Handsome.
The next day saw Elizabeth Anastasi on Malakai winning the Mini
Medal Challenge with Danielle Ross riding Debonair emerging as Reserve
Champion. Wendy Ackerman from Foxfield said “The Zone 10 Championships
were so much fun and I think it was brilliant to move them to the
middle of the year. I had a wonderful time and will definitely plan
on it again next year.”
The UHSJA Zone Medal Challenge is open to all riders who have qualified
for a Medal from from all associations within Zone 10, and it was
generously sponsored this year by EQUINE INSURANCE. There were wonderful
awards including Equine Massages from RIDER’S EDGE, polo shirts
from PICANTE EQUESTRIAN, & the MISSING LINK FOOD SUPPLIMENT.
